Frequently Asked Questions About AI Robots
I get a lot of questions about artificial intelligence and robotics. Most people ask the same things — especially beginners and kids who are just starting out.
So I put together this list of the most common questions I have heard over the years. If you have a question that is not here, just email me. I answer every message.
What is an AI robot exactly?
An AI robot is a machine that can think a little bit on its own. Regular robots just follow instructions step by step. If you tell a regular robot to pick up a red block, it will look for a red block. If it cannot find one, it stops.
An AI robot is different. It can look at a blue block and say, "Well, that is close enough. I will pick up the blue one instead." It learns from what it sees. It makes small decisions by itself. That is the main difference.
I like to tell kids that a regular robot follows a recipe exactly. An AI robot can change the recipe if something is missing.
Can a kid really learn robotics?
Yes. Absolutely. I have seen kids as young as eight years old build their first simple robot. You do not need to be a genius or know a lot of math.
The best way to start is with a simple kit. Something like LEGO Boost or a small Arduino kit. There are also free websites like Scratch where you can code a virtual robot without buying anything.
My advice to parents is this: let your kid be curious. Do not push too hard. Let them break things and make mistakes. That is how real learning happens.
I started by taking apart old toys. I did not know what I was doing half the time. But I kept going because it was fun. That is all you need — curiosity and a little bit of patience.
Do I need to know math to learn AI?
This is one of the most common questions I get. Here is my honest answer.
To understand what AI is and how it works in general — no, you do not need math. You can understand the basic ideas without touching a single equation. That is what this blog is for.
But if you want to actually build AI systems from scratch, yes, you will need some math. Mostly statistics and algebra. Nothing crazy. High school level math is usually enough to get started.
For kids, do not worry about math at all. Just focus on the fun part — building things, coding simple projects, and playing with robots. The math will come later if you stick with it.
What is the cheapest robot I can buy to start learning?
You do not need to spend a lot of money. In fact, you can start with zero dollars.
Free options first. There are websites like Code.org and Scratch that let you code virtual robots. No purchase needed. Just a computer and internet.
If you want a physical robot, the cheapest real robot I recommend is the Ozobot Bit. It costs around fifty to sixty dollars. It is small but it teaches real coding concepts. Another option is the Elegoo Arduino kit. That is around forty to fifty dollars but you need to do some assembly yourself.
My honest advice? Start free. Spend a month playing with virtual robots. If you still love it after that, then buy a cheap kit. Do not spend hundreds of dollars on day one.
Is AI dangerous?
This is a fair question. People ask me this a lot, especially parents.
Here is how I think about it. AI is a tool. Like fire. Fire can cook your food and keep you warm. Fire can also burn down your house. It depends on how you use it.
AI is the same. In the wrong hands, yes, it could be dangerous. But most researchers and engineers are working very hard to make AI safe. They add rules and limits so AI cannot do harmful things.
For now, the AI you see — like ChatGPT or robot vacuums — is not dangerous at all. It is just a program following instructions. The scary AI you see in movies does not exist yet. And honestly, it might never exist.
Do not be afraid of AI. Be curious about it. Learn how it works. That is the best way to make sure it stays safe.
How is this blog different from other AI websites?
Most AI websites are written for engineers or scientists. They use big words and complicated explanations. That is fine for experts. But what about everyone else?
I write for normal people. For kids. For parents who want to understand what their children are learning. For beginners who feel lost.
I do not use fancy jargon. I do not assume you already know things. I explain everything like I am talking to a friend over coffee.
Also, I am an AI engineer and robotics engineer. So I actually build this stuff. I am not just a writer repeating things I read online. I have real experience. That is why I can explain things in a simple way — because I actually understand how it works under the hood.

I update this page whenever I get a new question that I think other people would also want to know.
